Time for Joy

There are times when life weighs heavy and laughter is difficult to find.

Times when:

men open fire on a full movie theater…

adults use and abuse children they are to protect…

people ignore signs of abuse to protect their image…

jobs are hard to find…

the future seems dark and twisted…

dear friends move away and their absence is difficult to bear…

babies stop growing…

wars rage…

burdens weigh heavy.

Yet there are moments of pure joy.

holding a tiny baby fresh from mother's womb and seeing the wonder in his eyes…

kissing cheeks full round cheeks of my younger kids…

looking into the loving eyes of my husband…

little voices giggling…

deep conversations with my nine year old…

wet noses and tongues of our puppies…

listening to make-believe stories of my kids…

battling with my boy…

singing songs with my kids…

seeing beauty in the heat of a summer's day…

watching hummingbirds battle over the hummingbird feeder.

No matter how dark the valley or heavy the burden, there are moments of joy.

We just have to open our eyes to the moments of joy before us.

Stand in awe of the beauty.

Join in the silliness.

Give thanks for the moment.

There in the dark those times joy is a light in the darkness. It is there for us to grasp if only we look for it – if we choose joy.

How do you look for joy in the midst of dark times?
