Falling and Getting Up…Again…and Again…and Again…

“Alright Ms Angela,” my instructor encouraged as he held out a red paddle shaped target.

Last one is my best one, my mind whirled as I put my right foot forward prepared to kick. I twisted my torso and legs to my left, then lifted my left leg up to kick the target.

The next thing I knew sharp pain was radiating through my pelvis and tail bone.

“Ohh,” my fellow students stepped forward to offer me a hand.

I stood up on my own, shook my head, and headed to the back of the line.

“One more time,” my instructor smiled at me.

falling and getting up

One more time

Isn’t that what we need to hear each time we fall?

Get up…one more time.

Isn’t that what God promises?

The steps of a man are established by the Lord,
    when he delights in his way;
 though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong,
    for the Lord upholds his hand.”  Psalm 37:23-24

So when we fall it isn’t a forever thing, instead God upholds us. So we just need to rely on Him to get up and try again.

I got up after falling last night and this morning I still feel that fall in my back, neck, and tailbone.

And after we fall in our spiritual lives there will be lasting effects, consequences, reminders. But these lasting effects are only to remind us of God’s grace and forgiveness.

We aren’t to beat ourselves up over our mistakes, we are to get up and with God’s help try again – for the Lord upholds us in His hand.
